A European Vacation… in Montauk

If you can’t make it to the Mediterranean this summer, Montauk will do.

At least, that’s the idea behind Barlume Beach, the new 19-room waterfront hotel, restaurant, beach club, and marina from LDV Hospitality. Taking over 40,000 square feet along Montauk Harbor, the property promises the kind of place where lunch turns into drinks, drinks turn into dinner, and suddenly it’s midnight, and you’re still in your bathing suit.

In other words: Summertime.

Inspired by LDV’s Flatiron restaurant of the same name, Barlume Beach brings the brand’s take on Mediterranean living Out East—and gives it significantly better waterfront views. “It’s an evolution of everything we love about summer, bottled into one landmark destination,” says LDV Hospitality founder and president John Meadow.

But bringing la dolce vita to Montauk without creating a Mediterranean theme park is easier said than done. For the interiors, Studio Tre looked to the surrounding landscape, pairing turquoise tones inspired by the water with golden yellows that mimic the rising and setting sun.

The materials get even more specific. Copper, chrome, and brass mingle with mahogany, crisp white paneling, cork floors, custom oak furniture, and sailcloth-inspired taupes. The guest rooms offer views of either the marina or gardens and are outfitted with Parachute linens and Ortigia Sicilia bath products.

The restaurant and lounge, however, are where the property really comes alive. A deep verdigris enameled lavastone bar top, imported from Europe, anchors the space, while every seat—from the bar to the tent to the firepit—offers a view of the water. So no matter where you are, you’ve got the best seat in the house.

By day, guests can eat Mediterranean-inspired dishes under the Montauk sun. Then comes what Barlume calls “linner,” the magical stretch between lunch and dinner when the music gets louder and leaving becomes increasingly unlikely. By night, the property shifts into full party mode with musical performances throughout the summer.

Add in a 19-slip marina—because naturally every guest room needs its own boat parking—plus boat charters, surf lessons, and wellness programming, and Barlume Beach is essentially betting that the best summer destinations are the ones you never have to leave.

You’re still in Montauk—but you're drinking a spritz, wearing linen, and feeling significantly more European than you did when you arrived. ⬥
