The Brodins Double Down in LA With a Studio—and a Gallery to Go With It

"Elevated Continuum" at Formed For

Husband-and-wife team Gavin and Kelley Brodin create sculptures that invite contemplation and connection. With the opening of a dedicated Formed For studio in Los Angeles alongside a Brodin Gallery debut, the art world can contemplate and connect with their work up close and personal. Coinciding with Frieze Los Angeles, this dual opening provides a purpose-driven location where the Brodins can showcase this sculptural practice.

Sitting at the intersection of nature, memory, and transformation, Formed For is the Brodins' established monumental sculpture studio. With the first dedicated physical space, the studio makes room for collaborating with interior designers, architects, and developers on their large-scale works exploring the human experience.

“Formed For was born from our belief that monumental sculpture can live at the intersection of fine art and the design world without losing its soul," the Brodins say. "Every piece begins with intention and narrative, and then evolves through collaboration into something site-responsive and deeply felt.”

Close collaboration is important because each Formed For sculpture must start with a clear conceptual intention for its intended space—the Brodins want to transform the environment where it will sit. The sculptural language they use embraces themes of identity, resilience, and emotional presence. Their work isn't meant to just be seen, but to be deeply felt.

"Forgotten Whispers," "Timelapse," and "Woken Dreams" at Formed For

With the launch of Brodin Gallery, the couple has a fine art platform dedicated to their more conceptual and introspective work. The Brodins say this personal project is "an ongoing artistic journey where we explore sculpture as philosophy, metaphor, and a vessel for transformation."

The gallery houses the Brodin sculpture line, as well as rotating exhibitions with installations and mixed-media works. In addition to their own work, they will showcase emerging and established artists in the gallery. Their aim is to feature work that aligns with their own cultural and philosophical ethos. The result is a destination for collectors and curators alike.

"It’s where we examine the themes that resonate most intimately with us—such as identity, memory, myth, resilience, and the human experience—allowing each piece to hold emotional and symbolic weight,” they say.

"Conjoined," and "Sealed in Stone" at Brodin Gallery

For the launch of these dual spaces, the Brodin Gallery is presenting "Hard n' Soft," an exhibition co-curated by art_works and Abigail Ogilvy Gallery. "It felt like a natural opening for the gallery because it centers artists who question hierarchy and certainty, mirroring something deeply human and reflecting exactly why we created Brodin Gallery," the Brodins explain. Artists like Tallulah Dimfeld, Wilhelm Neusser, and Elspeth Schulze feature works that explore the tension between rigidity and flexibility.

The couple's goal is that Formed For and Brodin Gallery offer a unified exploration of the human experience through art.
