Fab 5: Vishakha Joshi

Fab 5: Vishakha Joshi

A high school elective sparked Vishakha Joshi’s interest in interior design—and it stuck. “I became fascinated by the idea that, as humans, we spend most of our lives inside spaces, and that the choices we make as designers can shape how people feel, move, and connect within them,” she recalls. “Realizing that design could have such a meaningful impact on everyday experiences is what truly drew me to this field.”

That people-first mindset has guided Vishakha throughout her career and led her to Abel Design Group, where she’s now a design associate in the Atlanta office. Known for her strong interior architecture and environmental graphics chops and clear, thoughtful communication, Vishakha really shines when she’s working with clients, who range from hospitality and corporate workplace to multi-family, automotive, and industrial sectors. Walking them through a finished project and seeing their excitement firsthand—that’s her sweet spot, and her proudest moment.

Here, Vishakha talks good design, taking risks, and how a little Whitney and MJ always help set the vibe.

What does “good design” mean to you?

A space planned with meticulous attention to detail—from form and function to finishes, environmental graphics, artwork, and furniture. In every corner, there’s a thoughtful surprise that sparks joy. And for each, that surprise is uniquely their own.

What do you wish clients understood better about architecture/design?

Each design phase builds on the one before it. This structure gives ideas the time and clarity they need to become fully realized, and rushing or skipping steps can weaken the overall outcome.

What’s the boldest risk you’ve ever taken in a project?

The boldest risk I took was committing to an unconventional design move early and protecting it throughout the life of the project. It demanded conviction and patience, but the outcome was a cohesive, memorable space that truly resonated with those who experienced it.

What’s on your nightstand right now?

Chapstick, sketchbook, Micron pen, lamp, phone charger, hand lotion

What’s your hype music or music you listen to while working?

I’m an old soul, drawn to jazz and ’80s love songs. But depending on the task and time of day, I’ll switch things up with R&B and pop: Usher, John Legend, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson, to name a few.
