Strike a Pose: 5 Pendants That Deserve a Close-Up

Strike a Pose: 5 Pendants That Deserve a Close-Up

Lodes, Oblò; Ingo Maurer, Shhh!

When you enter a space and want to linger and maybe even take a photo, that attraction is powerful. Interior designers tirelessly work long and hard to create that mix of elements—that certain something—but sometimes the smallest decorative detail has the biggest impact. Pendant lighting tends to be noticed immediately, and deservedly so. Much more than a finishing touch, its purpose goes way beyond basic illumination or even a decorative focal point. Pendants are used to define functional zones in open areas, create intimate dining nooks, and spotlight merchandise to influence consumer behavior. These five fixtures by Arteriors, RAD Furniture/Gantri, Ingo Maurer, Lodes, and Shailesh Rajput Studio have what it takes to do the heavy lifting while also infusing design projects with a point of view.

Arteriors, Ramya

Arteriors

Nothing says contemporary luxury like organic materials that evoke a feeling of wellness. This vibe is expertly conveyed by the Ramya Pendant, made in the Philippines for Arteriors, a design company known for its bold and eclectic products. Exuding natural beauty and artisanal craftsmanship, Ramya’s dome-shaped shade is hand-formed from overlapping layers of whitewashed coconut shells, making each product unique. Light filters through the shade creating softly dappled patterns. The pendant is suspended from strands of white coconut beads that reflects coastal-inspired sophistication while providing additional texture and visual interest. Though delicate in appearance, Ramya is suited for contract applications.

RAD Furniture, The Little Dot Pendant

RAD Furniture | Gantri

The Little Dot Pendant is a whimsical perforated lamp inspired by the architectural style of Jean Prouvé. Little Dot adds a playful note to any commercial space, like your favorite hotel or the cafe at work. But, dig deeper, and you’ll find a serious back story. The Little Dot Collection—which also includes a table lamp and sconce—is made of plant-based polymers with zero-waste manufacturing. Designed by LA-based RAD Furniture and made to order in collaboration with Gantri at their digital factory in San Leandro, California, every product is 3D printed on demand using a series of plastics derived from non-GMO sugarcane.

Ingo MaurerShhh!

Ingo Maurer

This witty Euroluce introduction reflects Ingo Maurer’s signature passion for light bulbs, which started with The Bulb in 1966. Building on the legacy of that iconic creation, Shhh! redefines the role of an everyday object while also expressing our universal desire for a little peace and quiet—please! An industrial headset wraps the bulb as if to protect it from a high-decibel world. Meanwhile, a hidden light source infuses the bulb with a surreal glow while two directional spots cast accent lighting onto nearby surfaces. In Ingo Maurer’s cheeky Shhh!, the true source of light is not the light bulb; instead, it is hidden inside the noise.

Lodes, Oblò

Lodes

Taking its cues from the sea, Oblò is a new suspension lamp from Italian lighting brand Lodes designed in collaboration with Paola Navone’s OTTO Studio in Milan. Available in multiple hues, including a serene metallic blue, this pendant demonstrates an innovative use of Pyrex. Each piece in the collection features a rounded glass diffuser that echoes a ship's portholes. Supported by knotted cables containing a hidden LED light source, Oblò appears to be floating, as if suspended in the water like buoys. Three of the five finishes are transparent to conjure the quality of seawater.

Shailesh Rajput Studio, Bodhi Deep Pendant

Shailesh Rajput Studio

Shailesh Rajput Studio in Mumbai is dedicated to crafting high-end lifestyle products inspired by the beauty of nature. The Bodhi Deep Pendant—crafted from aluminum, compound epoxy texture, leather, and tassels—is an earthy and textured product that delivers a soulful lighting experience. Part of the Bhoomi series, this pendant was designed to evoke the calm experienced beneath the sacred Bodhi tree. It expresses both the strength and softness that coexist harmoniously in nature.
